"Being able to lead a team and watch it grow is very meaningful to me. It pushes myself to grow as well."
Minsi joined Meltwater in 2012 as a Business Development Consultant for the Client Acquisition team. She was promoted as a manager within a year and was later relocated to Shanghai to be a Managing Director in 2015 to handle client relations. She now resides in Hong Kong as a Managing Director in the Key Account Management Team after coming back in 2018.
Q. Why did you choose Meltwater in the beginning?
Originally, I decided to join Meltwater because I wanted to learn more about B2B Sales. I knew that Meltwater had a great international trainee programme. It allows me to have direct interaction with decision makers, which would be wonderful for my own growth. Also, I love the culture here. That's actually why I joined.
I joined five years ago but I still find what I'm doing very interesting. Over the years, I've learnt to understand more and more about the company as I gradually built my career here. After three years in Hong Kong, I was relocated to Shanghai and my duties changed a lot cause I had to deal with maintaining client satisfaction and increasing sales within my department. So, I decided to revamp our team dynamic; this was an exciting experience. Being able to build and lead a team and watch it grow is something very meaningful to me. It pushes me to grow as well.

It is only when you get out of your comfort zone, then you can learn and become truly confident.
Q. You always tell our newbies to “get out of your comfort zone”, why is that?
It is only when you get out of your comfort zone, then you can learn and become truly confident. At Meltwater, we are always negotiating with executives and managing directors from other companies. I still remember my first business call with a client at Meltwater, it was with a CEO. Of course, you would encounter hardships and obstacles in the beginning. But through practice and experience, you will grow and and you will understand how to be more professional. I learnt how to figure out the needs of these decision makers, and managed to make them our clients.
Q. What is the most memorable moment in the 5 years?
It was December 2013 and my first mentee and I reaches our target 5 months in a row! We even reaches 200% in December by the end of the yer. It was a very great Christmas.
Q. How do you view our “work hard play hard” culture?
I think this is an integral part of our culture. No matter how busy work is, I will always take the time to work out. Sports is a very important part of my life. I always go to the gym, or sometimes go hiking with friends. I would also choose sports that required teamwork as the theme for team building in our team. Working out and sweating is a very good way to release stress, and many types of sports could improve bonding within the team.
Q. Any advice to future Meltwater employees?
Joining Meltwater is not solely about the sales experience. You need to work hard and your personal growth depends on what you do day by day. If you want to join a growing team that can truly impact the media landscape in the APAC region, then you should join us.
